Just watched the Salah "penalty" against Newcastle. Jesus, that's embarrassing. He folds himself in half and "falls" in a really unnatural way. How was that given?

Maybe if Redmond was going for a try.

Re: VAR to be used next season
It was because he used his hands to score the goal, which is why Oggy and Fabianski were protesting.

In fact he knew he used his hands, which is why he looked at the ref for a while before celebrating, he knew he was guilty.

Re: VAR to be used next season
Well, now I'm going to have to review the 'tape'.
The only potential reason for disallowing their goal (that I noticed, or mentioned in the commentary), was for offside.
But replays showed it was OK.

If their goal had been disallowed first...insert the rest of of your post.

Just enjoy the win, mate.

Re: VAR to be used next season
In the context of you wanting to trade penalty decisions it DOES matter.
If the game been pulled back for that penalty, the rest of the game would have played out differently, and the incident you refer to would almost certainly not have occurred.

I win.

Ron

Any scenario is an aunt/bollocks/uncle one so it does not matter when but it was after it was 1-2.

Re: VAR to be used next season
They often have a little campaign at a start of a season for refs to concentrate on but that idea of retrospective penalties for diving went out the window very quickly.
There are examples every week of things that should be punished so it’s not as though they cleaned it by suspending Lanzini for having a Stoke player slide through him.
Suspect they realised Dele Alli and Kane would miss more games than they would play so knocked it on the head.

Correction it was an Everton player V palace (niasse or something)

Mad Dog 3:22 Fri Dec 28
Re: VAR to be used next season
I see salah has escaped any punishment for the blatant dive v the Geordies.

Still only lanzini and one other fella (palace player?) To get suspensions for diving.

Absolutely and completely disgraceful

I think in the Premier league the expectation is that smaller teams will get some measure of justice compared to the current set up.
It’s got to have set rules as to what they look at and how and when it operates but reckon over a season we will be well ahead.

Be interested to see whether they take a look at dives and start handing out cards.
Would have been interested to see a review of Salah’s pen v Newcastle the other day.

Americans won't accept any game that lasts less than 3 hours, and hope as many adverts as possible delay the game even further.

Taxis to within 1 inch of their seats, etc, etc.

Did your penalty incident occur before or after our second goal?

1-2 even with your penalty, so a wash in the end.

Re: VAR to be used next season
No. The scenario I referred to would DEFINITELY be a penalty to Southampton.

I'm quite sure of that.

We would have had a penalty. So really a wash.

You wouldn't have been too happy about it had it been in operation today.
Right about the time Anderson was smashing the winner, the VAR official would have been whispering sweet nothings in the referee's ear about Declan Rice wrestling a Southampton player to the ground in our area.
